ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
In the year 2017, the Department of Geology was established at Periyar University's Post Graduate Extension Centre in Dharmapuri. The department is offered M.Sc. Applied Geology calendar year programme in 2017 to start with the academic activities in the department. Currently, the department offers a two-year M.Sc. Applied Geology programme, as well as M.Phil. and Ph.D. programmes. The course curricula and syllabi have been updated on a regular basis to reflect recent advances in geological science and to meet the needs of industry and R&D institutes.
Subjects like Petrology, Sedimentology, Stratigraphy, Micropaleontology, Hydrogeology, Geochemistry, Remote Sensing & GIS, Applied Geomorphology, Disaster Mitigation and Management, and Coastal Zone Studies are among the subjects in which the Department's academic members have specialised. The department began doing research in 2017 and has continued to do so since then. From the academic year 2017-18 forward, the Department of Geology was operational.
Faculty members of the department have published their research works in reputed international Journals with high impact factor like Marine Pollution Bulletin, Environmental Assessment Monitoring, Data in Brief, Indian journal of Geo Marine Science and etc.
