Periyar University was established in September 1997 in the name of “Thanthai Periyar”, a great social reformer of Tamil Nadu. The University aims at developing knowledge in various fields to realize the maxim inscribed in the university’s logo “Arival Vilayum Ulagu”(It is knowledge that makes the world prosper). The University was reaccredited by the NAAC with ‘A’ Grade in the year 2015.
The Department of Mathematics is one of the departments functioning from the inception of Periyar University. The Department offers programmes of study and research leading to M.Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. degrees and is on a relentless march towards academic excellence. Based on the contributions towards research, University Grants Commission (UGC) has granted Special Assistance Programme (SAP), and Department of Science and Technology (DST) has granted Fund for Improvement of S&T infrastructure in universities & higher educational institutions (FIST) to this department. The Department conducts various research activities in Algebra, Bio Mathematics, Differential & Difference Equations, Fuzzy Differential Equations and Discrete Mathematics.
